Edward ‘Dutchy’ Pierce

There is a collection of medals, walking stick and photograph in a framed oblong case at the back of the Boer War display in the museum. It would be easily passed unnoticed by most visitors; but it tells a story without equal! The photograph shows a small elderly man, who is a Lance Corporal in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. When the Sinn Fein Rebellion broke out in Dublin on Easter Monday, the 24th April 1916, the Assistant Adjutant General, Colonel H.V. THE DRAKE BOWL

I work with a small team of museum volunteers whose task for the past four years has been to collate all the artefacts possessed by the museum, both those artefacts on display and those not on display (due to lack of space). Many of the latter items had been stored in boxes, some for decades, and no one currently working in the museum had sighted them… Read Full Article

Summer Activities 2012

As we try to shake off the Christmas excesses and prepare for 2013, it is perhaps time to reflect on our summer activities of 2012. A busy summer period involved a Field Trip, preparation and considerable research into the names recorded on the Fermanagh War Memorial in Enniskillen for a ‘Book of Honour,’ visits to Derry City Museum, including the old army barracks and fort at Ebrington, and Finner Barracks in County Donegal. Read Full Article

Erne Vintage Car Rally 2012

Once again the Inniskillings Museum participated in the Erne Vintage Car Rally. This year it took place on Friday 17 August at 7.30pm. The weather, although good during the day, became very overcast and wet about an hour before the parade began… Read Full Article

Re-enactment Groups

Re-enactment groups are societies of enthusiastic individuals who meet to relive military activities in historical times.  They research in minute detail the uniforms, equipment and military manoeuvres relevant to particular historical periods. Wearing reproduction uniforms and equipment the groups put on displays at carnivals, shows and anniversaries. Read Full Article
